Calling all aspiring playwrights!

As part of The Barn Theatre’s commitment to champion new writing, we are pleased to announce we will be staging a Playwriting Showcase in March 2021. Over three nights, we will stage three new works in The Barn Theatre (to a socially distanced audience) and simultaneously live stream these shows via our website.

Audience members will be asked to rate each show with the winning production being developed and staged as a full production at a later date.

Submission Criteria

We are looking for One Act Plays with a running time of around 50-60 minutes max.

We would encourage submissions from all genres to allow us to select a varied programme but respectfully decline any submissions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. All productions must have a maximum cast size of 5 actors and must be suitable for staging in a socially distanced manner on a simple set. 

Selection Criteria

A sub-committee, made up of experienced members, has been formed to anonymously assess all showcase submissions. They will provide feedback and narrow down the selection to a series of 3 plays to be performed in March 2021.  Please note:  playwrights will not be allowed to direct their own work.  A director for each play will be appointed by The Barn Theatre management committee.

How do I submit my play?

All submissions (work with no less than 12 point font size, along with one and a half line spacing and preferably in PDF format) must be emailed to info@thebarntheatremolesey.co.uk  by 31st  December 2020. 

Please do not send your work directly to any member of the Barn Theatre Committee as all works will initially be judged on an anonymous basis.  This means any submissions received outside of this process will be ineligible for review & consideration.

The successful playwrights will be informed by mid-January 2021.
